Sustainable Development in Indian Villages

Smart Villages Initiative aims to bring sustainable development to rural Indian villages with the goal of improving the quality of life for the villagers. SVI strategies combine actions to promote economic development and jobs together with actions to support innovations in services, mostly in the areas of education, mobility, employment, health care, sanitation, energy and information technology.

Smart Villages Initiative works to revitalize the implementation of rural services including health and sanitation infrastructure, clean water supply systems, waste recycling programs, education, social services to promote gender and caste equality, innovations in energy, transport, IT and new employment opportunities for local youth within smart and competitive rural businesses.

Smart Villages Initiative was founded by Dr. Anil Shah and is based in southern California.

Work is being implemented in 26 villages.
Work to soon begin in 64 villages.

Dr. Balu Gadhe adopted his village, Amblash.
A manager was appointed. The cleanliness competition is to start.

Founder of Smart Villages Initiative, Dr. Anil Shah visited India in October 2018 and was very encouraged with progress on the ground.

Gabat village is completely enthused.
The next phase at Gabat:
-20 toilets to be constructed on school campus for 1700 students.
-Water project sanctioned for 1.26 crores. (Paid 4 lacs to complete deposit.)
-Dairy output to improve 4 times providing new employment to 30 people.

Private company to tackle.
-Possible vertical irrigation for small farmers.
-11 toilets installed for the poorest in Gabat. Paid and functioning.
-One farmer taking up peanut butter manufacturing for export to an American company. The Americans visited them. Providing employment to 60 people. Work started.
-Public/private partnership with 6 doctors to start a complete basic assessment program. BP, heart rate, blood test including CBC and chem 14 includes test for liver, kidneys, protein, electrolytes etc.
-Aiming for 100 percent employment.
-Sanitation project of about Rs. 7 crores being negotiated with government. This is very important. There will be no more open gutters.

Next tour scheduled for February 2019 which will focus on the following:
Visit Rashtrapati Bhavan for innovation exhibition.
Visit Jalgaon to see 3000 acre development.
Visit Torsadia work for 1000 villages in South Gujarat.
See village improvement in action.
